I have, so far, experienced four New York winters. What I quickly realised was that a hat can literally save you the pain and misery of feeling cold. It’s one of those wonderful magic items of clothing that you can roll up and stuff in a bag when you don’t need it, but when that unpredictable wind picks up, put it on and “voilà!!!” it’s as good as being wrapped up in a quilt.
Another thing I quickly realised it that I needed a variety of hats for the variety of seasons.
In autumn you want something fairly lightweight; you’re excited that the weather is a little cooler and a hat can be the first little colder weather accessory that compliments your outfit.
December, January and February call for something heavier, more cuddly, maybe even whimsical for those long dark months?
And when March comes around and the Spring weather is teasing - the humble hat can be your bestest friend in the whole world. Again, moving on to something lighter - maybe in a great color or texture to bring in the new season?
So this is what l.a.n.a. is all about. This year, 2014, I am launching my first collection of hats for three seasons:
l.a.n.a. hats are 100% designed and hand made by a real person. No machines. Just two talented hands and a collection of knitting needles and yarn. They are made of only natural fibres, which allow for better breathability and richness of color.
l.a.n.a. hats have a seamless construction, making them more versatile to style and more comfortable to wear. This hat will stretch, shape and mould itself to convey your personality...(and a little bit of its own personality as well).
l.a.n.a is an acronym: the letters are the first initials of my family - my guinea pigs, my be all and end all...
..p.s. lana also means wool in Italian!
